Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. We are a non-profit charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations to Got Agua? are tax deductible to the extent permitted by the law of your home jurisdiction.

  • No. All of our work is undertaken by volunteers around the world.

  • The challenges vary from country to country and community to community. To be successful, whatever the challenges, we recognize that community support is essential to building and maintaining a sustainable project. As a result, we are committed to meeting each and every challenge using locally based solutions that can readily gain support from the individual community. Moreover, we never lose sight of the fact that we are guests in other people’s homes.

  • The cost to develop a water project varies from location to location and the particular needs of locality. In many instances, we have learned that a well can be repaired or sanitation can be improved for a few hundred dollars. Before we embark on a particular project, we undertake an analysis to determine the most cost effective solution to the particular problem.

  • From our first encounter with a community to having a project completed can take between 1 to 12 months.

  • We look primarily for community involvement — i.e., a willingness of the community to take an active role in project development and take ownership of the project after the initial work has been completed.
